The Altona Police Service is once again reminding residents to lock up their valuables, and call in the event of suspicious behaviour after being kept busy the last week or so investigating several complaints of vandalism, thefts and assaults.

On the 11th of August, Altona Police were called by the victim of an assault in Plum Coulee the victim told police that an unknown male had punched him in the face breaking his jaw. Police were advised that the victim had been at the Happy Wanderer having a beverage with the assailant who he had just met, the suspect left the bar; the victim left a short time later and witnessed the assailant urinating on the victim’s friend’s vehicle tire, when the victim confronted the assailant the victim was punched in the jaw breaking it. Police later located the 58 year old Roblin man and charged him with Assault Causing Bodily Harm.

Further on the 11th of August police were contacted by a resident on Elmcrest Drive in Altona, police were advised that they had just interrupted someone trying to steal a vehicle off their driveway. When they yelled at them the thieves got out of the vehicle and ran away. This matter remains under investigation.

Police were also called to a mischief of an unlocked vehicle, when police arrived at the residence they were shown a vehicle with the doors wide open and what appears to be urine all over the interior of the vehicle. The indecent act took place between 8 and 11pm. The victim is now dealing with MPIC regarding the damage to his vehicle.  Again police remind residence to lock their vehicles.

Continuing on the 11th of August police were called to a hit and run at the Altona Motor Hotel. Upon arrival police were shown a legally parked vehicle which had sustained significant damage. Through video surveillance police were able to identify the suspect vehicle and charge the 21 year old Altona man with leaving the scene of an accident.

Police are also dealing with several complaints of theft including 2 from the Altona Campground where a quantity of liquor and a bike was stolen and other bikes being stolen from yards.

Police would like to remind residents to take the keys and valuables out of your vehicles further to lock up their valuables including vehicles, sheds, houses, and bikes and so on. Residents are also reminded to call police should you see or hear suspicious behaviour regardless of the time of day or night.
