Winkler's Louis Tanguay is helping the Province celebrate its 150th anniversary. Tanguay was recently named to the Manitoba 150 Committee, charged with planning celebrations to coincide with the anniversary in 2020.

"I'm happy to be part of it," Tanguay says, adding he already had inquiries about joining the group while preparing for the 2018 Viterrra curling championship in Winkler."I kept saying I would be done the end of April, and sure enough May 1 they called me. I said "absolutely I'll do it.'"

Tanguay has been making waves across the Province, named Curling Canada Volunteer of the Year in 2016 after organizing the successful Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Winkler the year before. Tanguay was also Winkler's Citizen of the Year in2015.

"If you put something on, and it goes off well, you make the list of people who get tapped on the shoulder," he says. "It's nice to be recognized... there's a lot of great people on this committee and looking forward to what it brings."

The committee will generate ideas for events, as well as inspire communities to contribute events to the Manitoba 150 celebrations.
