The City of Morden and Pembina Valley Hawks are hosting the 2017 Esso Cup in April and what comes with a large scale event is the need for volunteers. The tournament will run April

"We need about 150 volunteers," said Volunteer co-coordinator Linda Reimer. "We are looking for people to help out in the areas of security, selling tickets, working in the volunteer lounge, entering stats. If you've ever wanted to be a mascot, we need a mascot named Puckster every evening. There's things like setting up meals and drivers. There's a wide range of areas that we need help in."

Reimer noted at this time they have roughly forty volunteers signed up for the event and are looking to reach and or surpass their goal. She added all volunteers are subject to a criminal record check.

The deadline to sign up to be a volunteer is March 15th.

As it stands the group would like to see all volunteers sign up for at least pair of shifts, which Reimer stated will be roughly three hours in length.

"To say they did," said Reimer when asked about why people should volunteer. "It's the Esso Cup. It's a national event. It's a life changer for these girls that are participating.

If you would like to sign up to volunteer you can visit the City of Morden or Esso Cup websites.
