The Winkler Horticultural Society debuted its ambitious Parkview Pioneer Patch project North of Highway 14 last week. Work began last fall filling the frontage yard with antique vehicles, filled to overflowing with flowers.

Organizers explain the display will save the aging group significant work and upkeep.

The antiques/flower display is located between DJ's Restaurant and New Leaf Garden Centre North of PTH 14

The creativity and beauty of the new space is already attracting photographers and the community.

"I'll think you'll see a lot of wedding parties coming and taking wedding pictures here," Margaret Klassen says. "I think you'll see an awful lot of people utilizing it, because of the beauty (of how) the old machinery and flowers come together and create."

The area also offers a roadside shelter for picnics.

While the project was Klassen's vision, she says it takes a community to reveal its true potential.

The group scoured local farmer's' back 40s for vehicles

"It's a work in progress," she says. "Every year I think it will emerge as something greater."

Community and local business donations continue to be constant supporters, Klassen notes, including Parkside Lumber.

Henry Ens of Parkside Lumber says they were proud to play a part, "We live in Winkler, this is our home. And it's going to be even better this year than last year."
