The chance to check out some new and unique vehicles brought families to the Carman Fair Grounds this weekend.

A Drive 4 UR Community event saw Ford Canada donate $20 to the Carman Splash Pad project for every person to take a new car or truck out for a spin. Committee member Nicky Spencer says 101 people registered for a test drive.

Families also paid a $20 entry fee to the Touch-A-Truck activity where they had the opportunity to sit in and discover vehicles like fire trucks, tow trucks, tractors and more.

Spencer says the hope was to help push the committee's fund raising total to the $300,000 goal, adding about $100,000 was still needed. "We're just really doing a big push to get that last hundred-thousand so we can build it."

She notes as soon as that $100,000 comes in, construction will begin. "We're hoping to have it up and ready to go by next spring/summer."

The next fund raiser in support of the Carman Splash Pad is a parent and kid golf tournament in August.
