Killarney-Turtle Mountain would like to see the Association of Manitoba Municipalities form a non-cities caucus to lobby for rural issues.

The municipality will present a resolution to AMM members attending the Western District meeting in Carberry on Thursday.

“We'll see that AMM has met with the province on behalf of the cities caucus about things that never made it to the AMM floor. Some of the things they bring forward didn't get passed by resolution by the entire AMM and it only passes by members of the cities caucus” said Mayor Rick Pauls.

He's like to see if rural members can get the same type of authorization to have AMM speak for them on things that don't have to go to the entire AMM group as well.

“To be honest we are bringing this up because we see the beginning of a split. Years ago there used to be two organizations and they amalgamated into one. We think the formation of the cities caucus is a step down a very slippery slope.”

Pauls doesn't know how much support the resolution will have form the other district members.

“I think AMM is still meeting the needs of the rural members but I think the cities caucus seems to have a more direct line to the province than the rest of the members.”
