Sutton will take over from Andrew Volk, who has resigned to take on an administration role at a Winnipeg school.

Sutton has been working in Western School Division the past four years, including one year as a Grade 3 teacher and three years as a Vice-Principal. Prior to working for WSD, he worked for four years as an early year’s educator at Ashern Early Years School in Lakeshore School Division.

Michael Ward (submitted photo)Sutton says he has some mixed feelings about leaving Maple Leaf. He said although he's very excited to begin his new position, he's going to miss all of the staff, parents, students, and the close relationships he has made at Maple Leaf. "I know they (Minnewasta School) have a wonderful staff, parent group, and the students are great, so I can't wait to get over there and promote that positive culture that I know is already going on over there, and make sure all our students are happy and safe."

Meanwhile, Michael Ward, who is presently working as the English as an Additional Language teacher at École Morden Middle School, will take over Sutton's current role as vice-principal at Maple Leaf in September. Over the past five years, he has served as an acting administrator at École Morden Middle School. He is also currently serving as the Western Teachers’ Association President.

"This has been something I've been looking to do for awhile, and I'm really excited for the opportunity," said Ward.
