Drill night for the Winkler Fire Department turned into more than just practice last night.

During their regular weekly training, the department was dispatched to three separate calls, one at Coffee Culture on Navigator Road.

Fire Chief Richard Paetzold said they were called to the restaurant around 7:30, which ended up being a small electrical fire. Prior to their arrival on scene, he said the owner, acting quickly, used an extinguisher to put out the fire.

Paetzold said they also assisted members of the Winkler Police Service directing traffic at a motor vehicle collision around 8:00 last night on Cargill Road, and responded to fire alarms at a business on Pembina Avenue East.

Earlier in the day fire crews also responded to alarms at a commercial property in Schanzenfeld.

Both fire calls turned out to be false alarms.
