The Mound Wildlife Association held a fund raising fishing Derby on Saturday on Rock Lake.

The weather cooperated and 117 people dropped a line in the lake and of those 55 caught a fish.

“We were pleased with the turnout and money raised will go towards our free youth kids derby in the spring which is aimed at getting young people to fishing and to get more anglers out there to enjoy the outdoors” said President Dustin Flanagan.

Flanagan says the derby used to be a regular event until it stopped about 10 years ago. “We felt it was time to bring back the derby and plan to make it a regular part of yearly activities for the wildlife group.

Flanagan says the goal is to get bigger and better prizes to help attract even more people to the fishing derby.

“There were some people that came out on Saturday who had fished before and there were some that didn't have augers and hadn't fished for several years. The spring event we see a lot more people who are new to the sport.”
