Winkler is rumbling onto to the world stage and into the record books next summer with 300 combines.

Children's Camps International (CCI) recently announced the return of a world-record Harvest For Kids attempt in Winkler.

Currently, the record is 244, set by CCI's Saskatchewan office in 2012.

Winkler originally broke the unofficial record for fastest harvest in 2006 when 100 combines harvested 160 acres of wheat South of Winkler in just 11 minutes.

Two lines of rumbling farm machinery, each a mile long, will meet in the middle of the 320-acre field South of Winkler

Harvest for Kids National Director Dave Thiessen explains they hope to host 300 combines and raise $3,000,000 to send children to their camping ministries around the world.

"This is... a platform that will give us an opportunity to share about what we do," Thiessen says.

He explains they're aiming for a "God-only goal"

"We want to raise enough funds to send one million kids to camp," he says. "It's scary, we know that, but we know the goals we set are God goals."

To reach the record-breaking numbers, he says they will be looking for drivers in the Steinbach, Niverville, Portage, and Brandon areas.

The date with Guinness World Records is set for August 4, 2018, to break the record of most combines harvesting simultaneously on the same field.

George Klassen will be organizing the event and says many farmers have expressed interest in returning since the last event or taking part for the first time.

"That was such an emotional event for them that they want to come back," he says.

While daunting to plan a large-scale event with an expected 15,000 spectators, Klassen says they're excited to begin.

"We've got our work cut out for us."

While CCI had originally hoped to organize a record-breaking harvest this summer, the loss of a coordinator in the early stages put a hold on plans. With a new coordinator in place, the event is scheduled for August 4, 2018
