Every dollar donated to the Winkler Community Foundation (WCF) was supercharged on November 18.

WCF raised $37,326 on Saturday, easily passing their goal of $20,000.

"Thank you to the community for their generosity," WCF Executive Director Myra Peters says.

During the weekend's 24 Hour Giving Challenge, the Winnipeg Foundation matched one dollar for every five to a maximum of $2,000.

This year the Winnipeg Foundation also asked the Province of Manitoba to participate and match one dollar for every five for all foundations of Manitoba (To a max contribution of $2000 per foundation). This inspired WCF to see if they could find three more sponsors and double all gifts received.

Coming alongside the Winnipeg Foundation and the province was the City of Winkler, Access Credit Union, and the Winkler Auto Dealers, essentially doubling the first $10,000 made to the community fund.

Peters also thanked BDO for kickstarting the drive with a $1,000 donation.

"Many of our donors wait for this event annually to give knowing the impact of their gift will be stretched," Peters says, adding the 24-hour giving challenge also brings in awareness as well as new donors.

By growing the community fund WCF is able to grant more money back into the community each year. The funds raised during the 24-hour giving challenge will grant out an additional $1,300 annually.
