The Winkler Dodgeball League finished their third season strong with seven teams competing for 10 weeks in the Garden Valley Collegiate gymnasium.

"The Dodgefathers" captured the championship by going undefeated during the round robin and playoffs. They defeated "Tropic Thunder" 11-6 in the final.

"This was the most balanced season in the last three years with the third seed and seventh seed only separated by six points," says Jordan Driedger, Director of Community Services for the City of Winkler.

The league started a few years ago when community members were asking for one, and since then it has caught the attention of Dodgeball Manitoba.

He says, "they're trying to grow the sport throughout the province and ours just kind of fell onto their plate. They didn't realize that we had started something."

They are also looking at doing a clinic in the area to get more people interested in joining, or doing a scrimmage with a local and city team playing each other.

"Possibly even adding on, or maybe entering one of our local teams into a tournament ... We'll see if we can get something that works at some point in the next few years," adds Driedger.

Teams interested in joining can be added to the wait list right away, while the official registration starts in December and January. The season starts in February and ends before May long weekend.
