A 20-year-old Steinbach man is facing charges after pointing a BB gun and uttering threats.

On March 2 police received a report of a male suspect that had pointed a handgun at two males in a Winkler parking lot and left the scene in a black vehicle. Members of the Altona Police Service later located the male suspect in Horndean.

Winkler Police Service members attended and took custody of the driver. A black handgun, which was determined to be a BB gun, was located inside the vehicle along with a laser radar detector.

The 20-year-old male, a resident of Steinbach, was arrested for two counts of pointing a firearm and two counts of uttering threats.

While speaking with the male police noted the odour of beverage alcohol emanating from his breath, and he was subsequently arrested for driving impaired. The male’s vehicle was towed from the scene and he was transported to the Winkler Police Service where he provided two breath samples resulting in two readings of 70 mg%.

The male was later released on a Promise to Appear with conditions and issued a ticket for driving a vehicle equipped with a radar detection device. His driver’s license was also suspended for 72 hours.
