Every person has a dream they would like to achieve before time runs out, and 80-year-old Victor Enns of Winkler recently did just that on his motorcyle trip to Alberta earlier this year.

On July 1, Enns embarked on the journey west with his son and his daughter-in-law. However, it only took reaching Brandon when his bike broke down. From there, he used a borrowed bike to complete his travels. He said the great weather and seeing mountains once again were the highlights of his trip.

He noted his love for motorcycles stemmed from an early childhood memory.

"I can remember being a little boy of about five or six years of age. My older brother had made a motorized bicycle. He took a motor off of an old washing machine ... he mounted it on a rack like a carrier on the back of a bike, made a pulley out of plywood, and a V-belt, and he had a self-propelled bicycle. I remember sitting on it and pretending I was riding it and wishing it was mine," said Enns.

Years later, he eventually bought his first bike from a friend -- a 1958 500 CC single cylinder AJS for $500. Since then, Enns has continued working with and riding motorcycles during his free time, while his dream to bike to Alberta developed.

However, this became difficult to do when his wife Olga grew ill and passed away last year.

"I had been thinking about going to Alberta for a long time, not just a couple of months, for years I wanted to go, but Olga was not well. I couldn't take her with me and I couldn't abandon her and leave her at home, so it just didn't happen. Then when she passed away I had some time on my hands and I tried again. This time we got going," he said.

Last week, Enns finally bought the motorcycle he has always wanted -- a 2009 Yamaha 650 V Star.
