Two Winkler men are facing break and enter charges after a theft at Gateway Resources.

On October 29, police were notified several electronic items were stolen from the facility.

Reviewing video surveillance revealed a vehicle with two occupants arrived at the building. Two males could be seen removing items from the electronic waste bin and placing them inside the vehicle, as well as entering a locked portion of the building.

Video surveillance also showed the same individuals entering the warehouse on previous occasions. Police found the first suspect at his home where he was arrested for Break and Enter. Police travelled to the second suspect’s home where he was also arrested for Break and Enter, during which time the suspect admitted to police that he was in possession of Methamphetamine. Police subsequently located 5.1 grams of Methamphetamine on the suspect.

Steven Gregory John Chaboyer, age 33, of Winkler is charged with four counts of break and enter and theft, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of Methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking. The accused remains in custody.

A 22-year-old male resident of Winkler was also charged with break and enter and theft. He was released on a Promise to Appear with conditions.

Gateway Resources representatives remind the public the recycling depot is open to the public 24/7, "a service we are happy to provide."

However, all closed areas in the depot and on Gateway Resources' property are not available for public access. Trespassing in the closed areas would be considered breaking and entering.
