The Winkler Aquatic Centre will be closing a few weeks earlier than normal this summer. The last day of swimming will be August 6.

The City of Winkler is making a $650,000 investment to refurbish the pool.

However, for work to finish in time for the start of summer 2018 the pool will close early. Winkler Mayor Martin Harder notes the decision means only one swimming season will be affected.

The price of season passes will also be adjusted accordingly.

Along with a facelift, the pool will also receive a liner replacement.

"We struggled with trying to keep the liner waterproof, and this last year was particularly challenging," Harder says. "It's time, the liner is getting brittle and we're going to continue to have more and more of these problems."

The Winkler Aquatic Centre is over 21 years old.
