Work was over 80 percent complete on the $650,000 renovations at the Winkler Aquatic Centre before the weather halted the project.

While crews wait for spring, the City of Winkler has received a nearly $38,000 grant for on-going pool upgrades. The grant was possible through the Province's Community Places Program.

While the grant represents a small portion of the entire budget, "it's very helpful," Winkler Mayor Martin Harder says.

Some of the upgrades the money will cover include a new lift for disabled individuals, a Cabana that will sell food items, and a climbing wall. The kiddie pool will also be doubled in size.

Meanwhile, the long-awaited pool liner replacement has been completed, along with new jets and underwater lighting. The splash pad is receiving a new, non-slip coating as well.

While many lamented the early closure of the pool this summer, Harder says it has allowed time for the renovations.

Good weather has allowed crews to make good headway on the liner installation
