Winkler Police Service arrested a woman for fleeing police, assault with a weapon and driving while impaired Saturday, June 23.

At approximately 3:40 p.m. police observed a vehicle travelling with its hazard lights on and trunk lid open. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop however the driver of the suspect vehicle refused to pull over and travelled through a stop sign without stopping.

A second police vehicle was travelling beside the suspect vehicle in an attempt to perform a controlled stop when the suspect vehicle swerved, struck the police vehicle before finally coming to a stop.

Police observed that the female had slurred speech and her pupils were dilated. A search of the suspect resulted in the seizure of a partially smoked marihuana joint and a small amount of marihuana. A Drug Recognition Expert examined the accused and confirmed that she was impaired by a drug. The 47 year old female was later released on a Promise to Appear with conditions.
