The Winkler Airport is receiving a $150,000 upgrade.

City Council has closed the tender on the airport apron and taxiway improvement project. The engineering staff was tasked with designing and reconstructing the taxiway to Transport Canada specifications taking into consideration the size of aircraft that use the airport.

Winkler Mayor Martin Harder says the improvements will make travel safer for users.

Maple Leaf Construction is expected to begin work on the project soon.
