July's Sports Star Of The Month is being awarded to Altona's Eric Geirnaert. Eric is a ten year old, who loves to help in any way that he can, whether it be raking diamonds, going to get things when needed, and always came back and asking if there are more ways he can help.
"If his team is done, he sticks around right to the end," said Eric's father Dan Geirnaert. "He's always asking if there's anything else he could do. At any hockey or baseball tournament. Even we go to other teams tournaments he's willing to help. To me its great."
Dan noted this isn't something he has asked or wanted Eric to do, it simply is just something Eric has enjoyed doing.
"Just seeing some of my friends go out there and help out a bit more," said Eric. "I think I want to keep doing that," said Eric when asked why he continiously wants to contribute.
According to Eric's father Dan, he is a golder, has had a successful year playing baseball with the Altona Bears, won the league championship and recently participated in Provincials. Meanwhile, in the winter Eric takes to the ice with the Altona Maroons Atom silver team last year and was the leading point getter on the team as a defencemen.
Dan stated his is overall a great athlete and a very awesome volunteer.
Eric explained he has his eye on a CCM Speedburner hockey stick, which the $50 gift card to Time Out Sports in Winkler will help contribute to.
