With warmer weather on the way, city staff say they're excited to open more recreation opportunities in Winkler.

So far, city playgrounds, the local skate park and tennis courts are open, though gatherings must still be limited to 10 people in common areas.

"We hope everyone will get out and enjoy some fresh air," Jordan Driedger, Director of Community Services, says. However, he reminds residents to respect their neighbours by maintaining social distancing and regularly washing their hands.

In keeping with recommendations from provincial sport organizations, basketball courts, beach volleyball courts, baseball diamonds and soccer pitches will remain closed.

Meanwhile, the Winkler Aquatic Centre is expected to open July 6. Swimming lesson registration and leadership courses have also been postponed until further notice.

The Winkler Campground and outdoor washrooms will open May 15. Bookings can be made online or on the phone.

The Public Works and Utilities office will open to the public May 18. City Hall will open May 11, but only accessible via the south entrance.

The Winkler Fire Department opens May 18, but by appointment only.

The Winkler Police Service station will be open to the public May 11, but residents are asked to use the north entry and ring the doorbell for service.
