Expect delays and detours around the intersection of PTH 32 and Pembina Ave this morning as the first phase of improvements begins. The $1.3 million project is a joint effort between the city and MIT, adding traffic lights and turning lanes at the congested intersection.

Phase one will block off Southview Drive to Victoria Street, and should wrap up by September 2. Phase two, the widening of Pembina Ave. East, begins after Labour Day and will shut down Pembina Ave. East from PTH 32 to Manitoba Road. Construction during phase two is expected to take two weeks.

Along with traffic lights, the controlled intersection will see the addition of four lanes. While construction takes place traffic will be diverted for a number of months.

Stage one involves the closure of PTH 32 from Southview Drive to Victoria Street including the intersection of Pembina Avenue

Stage two includes the closure of Pembina Avenue East from PTH 32 to Manitoba Road while crews add a right turn lane from Pembina Avenue East onto PTH 32
