A search of a Swan Lake First Nation home Sunday afternoon turned up numerous firearms, ammunition and stolen items.

The Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) says officers were responding to reports that numerous firearms and other stolen items were allegedly within the home and outside buildings. The resulting search yielded several long rifles, modified shotguns, a large amount of ammunition, a machete, two quads, two dirt bikes, and a small amount of narcotics.

Officers seized the items with charges pending. Investigation continues.

Meantime, a 22-year-old man from Swan Lake First Nation is facing drug trafficking charges after a late night stop by members of the MFNPS.

According to the agency, officers were patrolling the area around 11 p.m. February 20, when they noticed a driver known to them operating a vehicle with a suspended licence. As they approached, officers detected the smell of cannabis coming through an open window on the vehicle.

A search revealed several baggies containing cannabis and other drug paraphernalia.

The driver was taken into custody without incident.

He faces charges of Drive while Disqualified; Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Selling; Possession of Cannabis not packaged, labelled and stamped; Distribute illicit Cannabis.

The MFNPS says officers continue to diligently work to remove illegal firearms and drugs from the community, with a goal of ensuring that all the communities are kept safe.
