That was the question asked last week at the Manitoba Agronomists Conference held at the University of Manitoba.

Manitoba Agriculture's Terry Buss addressed the topic.

"We certainly have the space in the province. We certainly have suitable land to do it. What I can say is that with developments in this province in terms of the value added in the medium to long term, we've got some real potential I think for this business to grow in a sustainable way."

Buss said pea acres in Manitoba were at about 65,000 in 2017.

He notes developments like the Roquette pea processing plant being built near Portage la Prairie will definitely help to expand pea acres in the province.
