Minnewasta Golf and Country Club will tee up a new season on Wednesday, April 24th.

"We're about to start the 2024 season here and I'm excited for that!" said Greg Hesom, the club's CPGA Head Pro and General Manager. "It's a little bit earlier than normal, which is great. We've had two late years, so it's going to be nice to kick off early."

The 18-hole course is in hilly terrain on the edge of the Pembina escarpment.

Preparation for the new season has kept them busy, said Hesom.

"It was a strange winter. We had a lot of snow, but it just melted a few times. You're always a little concerned with ice buildup, whether your grass is going to come back. You never know until it starts growing. All we can do is clean up, cut, fertilize, wait for some rain and see what's happening. Then the biggest thing obviously is getting the irrigation system going."

The irritation system is undergoing some needed repairs.

Spring is an exciting time for Hesom.

"Just seeing people get out there, the happy faces. They’re usually happier in spring than they are in fall, which is always good. Just getting tournaments and leagues going and then obviously, on a selfish basis, being able to play golf again.

The season will see the return of all the regular tournaments.

"We did pick up a couple of new one's last year and thankfully they're coming back as well. It’s great for the community that those tournaments are able to raise some charity money."

Hesom says the upcoming season won't have anything new to offer.

" The clubhouse has taken up most of our resources and energy. We’re really looking forward to getting that completed towards the end of the season."

The former clubhouse and banquet facility were destroyed by fire in November 2021.
