Provencher Member of Parliament Vic Toews was sent to the Middle East last week.

Toews visited Canadian troops in Afghanistan and Pakistan in order to find out what their military needs are.

The army general indicated Canadian soldiers are among the best personally equipped soldiers in Afghanistan.

Toews also met with relief agencies who spoke  highly of our military presence.

In fact, he was told it is essential Canada's military remain in Afghanistan in order to provide civil stability.

Relief agencies fear without our troops, hospitals and schools would be burnt and the country would descend into chaos.

Toews says it's good to be back on Canadian soil.

While in the Middle East he was continuously surrounded by bodyguards and for safety reasons was not allowed to travel by land vehicles.
