Four African refugee families will be moving to Altona within one month each other.

The families who are escaping political unrest and war are excited they have been given a second chance at life.

Spokesman Ray Loewen says if Altona had not sponsored them, the families would not be coming to Canada at all.

Loewen adds there are things the community can do help these families feel more at home when they arrive.

He says they will need basic furnishings in their homes, ongoing financial aid, and a host family or friend to help them shop for food and clothes.

Loewen says they are expecting the families by November.
