Members of Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services responded to their first big grass fire of the season earlier this week.

Fire Chief Greg Zimmerman says the wind picked up and caught the flames poking out of a burn barrel.

Overall, Zimmerman isn't overly concerned with the fire risk this spring, noting these dry conditions aren't anything new for this time of year. That being said, the Fire Chief is asking residents to use caution when doing any kind of burning.

"Just make sure you follow all of the rules. We do have rules, even if you're burning in a burn barrel," he said.

This includes making sure fire are supervised at all times and to avoid burning when there's even a little bit of wind.
