Come Thursday this will be illegal

As of Thursday it will be illegal for you to talk, text, or email on your mobile device while driving. CAA Manitoba is very supportive of this new law, with Public and Government Affairs Manager Liz Peters saying the law is a great reminder that drivers need to shut out distractions and focus on their main job... driving their vehicle.

Peters tells us about the results of a recent CAA Manitoba survey where one of the questions related to road safety issues.

She tells us CAA feels it's important the number of infractions are closely monitored in order for benchmarks to be established on the effectiveness of the law. Peters says If analysis shows the ban isn't working, the law may need to be re-examined, and possibly strengthened with demerits or extended to graduated licensees to add a further deterrence factor.

By the way, if you are caught using a handheld device while driving after July 15th you could be in line for a $191 ticket.
