Successful Weekend in Minot for Central Energy U13

The U13 club traveled to Minot, ND to compete in the Minot Storm Invitational Tournament.

Hailey Baldwin collected four hits in four at bats and drove in three runs as the Energy defeated the Bismarck Sparks Blue 20-4 on Friday at South Hill Softball Complex. Baldwin tripled in the third inning, singled in the fourth inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the first inning. The bats were the story of the game as Central collected 18 hits in the game.

Game two saw Kylie Wiebe strike out 11 batters as the starting pitcher led Central Energy past Regina Riot 11-0 on Saturday. Wiebe gave up zero hits and zero runs in the complete game while walking four. Cassandra Lanthier went 1-for-2 at the plate as the left-handed hitter led the team with two runs batted in.

The Bismarck Sparks Gold defeated Central Energy 10-1 on Saturday in Central’s third game of the tournament. Bismarck scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. Collins Vrooman and Baldwin each managed a hit for Central.

The Energy then faced the Bismarck Sparks in the tournament final, a rematch from the day before. This time Central scored 6 runs, but it was not enough as they fell 12-6 to the strong Bismarck squad, earning a 2nd place tournament result. Wiebe pitched three innings in relief for Central. The righty allowed seven hits and seven runs (six earned) while striking out six and walking three. Bianca Lanthier led things off in the circle for Central. The righty gave up five hits and five runs (three earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking none. Central Energy accumulated 10 hits in the game. The Lanthier sisters and Baldwin each collected two hits while Vrooman and Bartlett each drove in two runs.

The U13 club gets back to league play next weekend, hosting games in Winkler on June 22nd at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. and traveling to Friedensfeld for two games on June 23rd.

Central Energy U15 traveled to Stonewall to play two league games on Saturday.

Central easily dispatched the Smitty’s Terminators 7-0 in the first game of the day. Kennedy Funk earned the win for the Energy. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one. Shyanne Goertzen threw one inning of scoreless ball for Central in relief. She surrendered one hit, striking out one and walking none. Bree Pearce, Addison Nikkel, Ella Conrad, Rory Perrin, and Funk each collected one hit. Pearce went 1-for-1 at the plate as the leadoff hitter led the team with one run batted in.

Central Energy would face the hometown Interlake Phillies in the second game of the day. This one was much tighter, remaining 0-0 until the Energy got on the board in the top of the sixth inning after Nikkel doubled, and Funk singled, each scoring two runs. Nikkel earned the win for Central. The lefty surrendered two hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out seven and walking one. Taylor Wall led things off in the circle for Central. She surrendered two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one. The Energy tallied 10 hits in the game. Mya Richard, Ella Conrad, and Goertzen each collected two hits. Nikkel went 1-for-2 at the plate as the left-handed hitter led the team with two runs batted in. The Energy displayed tight defense all game with no errors, and they turned one double play on their way to a 4-2 victory.

The U15 club will practice this week and host four home games this weekend, June 22nd at 12 p.m. & 4 p.m. in La Salle and June 23rd at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. in Morden.

The U17 Central Energy team had the weekend off.
