U15 Central Energy Win Pair of Games on Sunday

Taylor Wall struck out 10 batters as she led Central Energy past Winnipeg Lightning 10-2 on Sunday. Wall allowed two hits and two runs over five innings while walking three. Central scored six runs in the first inning on the way to victory, piling up 10 hits in the game. Ella Conrad, the number seven hitter for the Energy, led the way with three runs batted in, going 2-for-3 on the day.

Addison Nikkel drove in four runs on three hits to lead Central past Winnipeg Lightning 14-1 in game two of the day. Nikkel singled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and tripled in the second inning, scoring two. Central won thanks in part to nine runs in the first inning. Wall doubled, scoring one run, Kennedy Funk singled, scoring two runs, Zoey Shantz homered to center field, scoring three runs, Nikkel singled, scoring two runs, and Conrad drew a walk, scoring one run. Shyanne Goertzen earned the win for Central, giving up four hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking none. Central was strong at the plate in the offense filled game, collecting 16 hits and five walks.

 

U17 Central Energy Sit 2nd in MPSL Standings

Central Energy carry a strong 11-5-1 record in league play as they near the end of the regular season. The Energy traveled to Winnipeg on Tuesday to face the Manitoba Thunder in a double header. Game one ended undecided at 8-8 as Maddy Friesen had three hits in four at bats. Friesen hit a solo home run to center field in the fifth inning, doubled in the third inning, and singled in the sixth inning. A home run by Molly Cowan put the Energy on the board in the top of the second. Thunder flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits to take an 8-3 lead. Central would eventually tie the game in the top of the 7th. Gabbi Hildebrand pitched four innings in relief for the Energy. The reliever gave up five hits and five runs (zero earned) while striking out four and walking none. Heidi Reimer started in the circle for Central. She surrendered five hits and three runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking three. Central piled up 10 hits in the game. Cowan, the number eight hitter for U17 Central Energy, led the way with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-2 on the day.

Maddy Friesen drove in five runs on three hits to lead Central Energy past the Thunder 18-5 in game two. Friesen hit a home run to right field in the second scoring three, singled in the second scoring one, and singled in the third scoring one. Central enjoyed a huge second inning, scoring 13 runs. Friesen singled, scoring one run, Hailey-Jo Guffei singled, scoring two runs, Brooklyn Friesen homered to right field, scoring two runs, Hildebrand drew a walk, scoring one run, Molly Conrad doubled, scoring two runs, Friesen homered to right field, scoring three runs, and Tori Mangin singled, scoring two runs. Cowan started in the circle for U17 Central Energy. She allowed one hit and five runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking two. Central Energy tallied 16 hits in the game.

Central then played a two-game set on Sunday, beating the Manitoba Angels 3-0 and losing to the top ranked Eastman Wildcats 11-1. Both teams were strong in the circle when Central Energy defeated Manitoba Angels. Nelia Fehr started the game for Central and recorded 21 outs. Fehr struck out 11 batters on the day, allowing only two hits and zero runs over seven innings while walking one. Central Energy were the first to get on the board in the first when Molly Conrad hit a solo home run to left field. Heidi Reimer and Conrad each collected two hits and one RBI.

Central Energy had trouble keeping up with the Eastman Wildcats in an 11-1 loss in game two of the day. Energy scored one run in the top of the sixth on a solo home run to center field by Maddy Friesen. Hildebrand stepped in the circle first for Central, giving up seven hits and six runs (one earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one. Friesen and Tori Mangin were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Energy while hitting back-to-back. Friesen went 2-for-3 at the plate as the right-handed hitter led the team with one run batted in.
