The Central Regional Health Authority recorded a $2.7 million deficit for the fiscal year 2005-2006.

It ended on March 31st.

Chief Financial Officer Ken Klassen points out the $2.7 million represents 1.6% of their total funding.

He adds the deficit was caused by a lack of provincial funding.

Klassen says they were expecting a $3.4 million deficit.

Looking ahead, the R.H.A. board is predicting a small surplus for this fiscal year.

Klassen admits they'll have to achieve that for several years to recover the deficit.
