The Chance 2 Camp BBQ fundraiser was at the Winkler CO-OP on June 14th, 2024. It attracted a large crowd and raised just under $4,000 to support children. This community annual event is part of a wider initiative by the Child and Family Services of Central Manitoba Foundation to provide summer camp experiences for underprivileged children.

"We saw the advantages of doing camps with our own children. Now it's my turn to give back to the community and help others go to camp... It's just a great privilege to be on a foundation board like this and to help kids that need a hand up," said Becky Loewen, CFS Foundation Board Member.

Attendees enjoyed delicious barbecued hotdogs and sausage burger meals while donating to a cause that offers children a chance to experience the joy and growth that comes from summer camp.

Chance 2 Camp is more than just a fundraiser. It aims to remove financial barriers that prevent children from attending camp. It provides children, regardless of their background, with the opportunity to build confidence, learn new skills, and create lasting memories.

The support of sponsors like CO-OP, Sunny Day, Winnipeg Goldeyes, Frank & Olive, The Potato Store, Peavey Mart, Flavors of Mexico, Chicken Chef, Giant Tiger, Golden West Broadcasting, and the generosity of the local community are the driving forces behind this initiative, inspiring support.

"Sometimes the smallest opportunity can make a big difference in a child's life... I get goosebumps just having events like this and seeing the turnout of people. I have a great passion for helping kids go to camp and experiencing the things I got to experience when I went to camp," said Sara Martens, Chance 2 Camp Community Support Coordinator.

The event highlighted the community's responsibility to support its youth and the positive impact of joint efforts. Funds from the BBQ will go directly towards camp fees and essential supplies for the campers. The success of the Chance 2 Camp BBQ fundraiser will make a significant difference in the lives of these underprivileged children.
