Winkler city council is formalizing the way it deals with requests for matching funds for various community projects. Mayor Martin Harder tells us a matching grant policy will be implemented, and it will set out the criteria and timelines organizations must meet. He says they are looking at making $50,000 available per year.

The projects will be considered annually by council. Organizations will need to submit their application the year prior to the start of the project for consideration in the city budget. Harder says they are considering a November deadline. Each request for a matching grant will be considered on its individual merit. The project must have a lasting community impact.
