There were no injuries, but extensive damage to a garage and home's attic after a fire in Reinfeld Sunday evening.

Winkler Fire Chief Richard Paetzold says when crews arrived they found an exterior fire, with flames spreading throughout the attic space of the entire house and garage. Firefighters began with an exterior attack, and soon afterward entered the interior of the house to knock down the fully involved attic fire by using a piercing nozzle.

The occupants were home at the time of the fire, and all safely evacuated after being alerted by a neighbor.

The damage cost estimate is unknown at this time, and the cause remains under investigation.

Also Sunday night, Winkler Fire Department responded to a hydro line/tree fire on Highway 3.

Meanwhile, around 5 a.m. Monday morning, Winkler Fire Department responded to a call regarding a fire at a 3rd Street residence. Firefighters found a small fire in a garage when they arrived.

Paetzold says the occupants had extinguished most of the fire after discovering it, and when firefighters arrived they finished extinguishing it and checked for any extension into the building.

There was heavy smoke damage in the garage, but no fire damage to the structure of the house or garage itself. The damage estimate is unknown at this time, with the cause under investigation.

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation, and one of them also suffered a small burn.
