Processing potato harvest continues in Southern Manitoba, but thoughts towards 2007's production contracts have begun.

Gary Sloik is the Secretary Manager at Keystone Vegetable Producers Association.

He says growers in Idaho have already voted and accepted a contract for next year, and farmers in Washington state are close to ratifying one as well.

Traditionally once those contracts are settled Manitoba's processors begin negotiations here.

Sloik adds it makes sense for all parties to hammer out next year's contracts as early as possible.

Processors are currently in the midst of finalizing deals with quick service restaurants, and producers want to know ahead of time what the contracts will be in order to prepare for next season.

Sloik notes this year's processing crop is looking very good with great yields and excellent quality for the most part.
