A 29-year-old man from the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie is facing many charges after allegedly ramming an RCMP vehicle with a stolen truck.

Portage officers responded to a call around 7:10 a.m. on Friday, September 16th. A member of the public was following what they thought was a stolen vehicle, and called in to make a report. The witness lost view of the vehicle, and officers took over the search. One officer did find the vehicle and it was confirmed to be stolen.

RCMP attempted to stop the truck, but the driver refused to pull over, choosing to try and ram the police vehicle. The vehicle got stuck on Road 30 West and the driver tried to flee from the scene. Police say he stole another vehicle and took off again.

This time, the driver was found in the area of Highway 2 and Highway 13, and continued to flee. Then, the suspect vehicle became stuck in a ditch, and at that time, police surrounded it. The driver got free and struck a police vehicle, injuring an officer. He was then arrested.

The driver has been charged with:
Assault on Police Officer with a Weapon x2
Flight from Police Officer
Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
Theft
Obstruction
Mischief x2

He was remanded into custody.
