Altona Police Chief Perry Batchelor presents Constable Dan Defer with the Police Exemplary Service Medal

An Altona Police Officer is the recipient of a national award. After 26 years in law enforcement, Constable Dan Defer received the Police Exemplary Service Medal. The medal recognizes police officers who have completed 20 years of full-time service with a recognized Canadian police force and have served in an exemplary manner, characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency.

Defer says he's not really an awards person, but notes it is nice to be honoured. Defer started his career in the Municipality of Barhead, Alberta, moved on to Pigeon Lake, Alberta and came to the Altona Police Service in 1989.

He says a highlight for him over his career would be the two year secondment he participated in with the Red River R.C.M.P. Border Enforcement Team. Defer says the work included intelligence gathering and larger investigations.
