The Winkler Flyers season came to end Friday night in Oakville, Ontario.

Chris Kobelka scored the go-ahead goal on the power play 26 seconds into the third period as the Calgary Canucks defeated Winkler 4-2 in the quarterfinals of the Centennial Cup.

Cody Pisarczk, Ty Hipkin and Matthew Paszkiewicz also scored for the Alberta Junior Hockey League champions.

Pisarczk opened the scoring with two seconds left in the first period.

The Canucks outshot the Flyers 21-5 in the opening frame.

“Obviously not the start we wanted as we took a bit to get settled in,” texted Winkler head coach Justin Falk. “Good response in the second. We were a bounce or two away once we found our game.”

Hipkin extended Calgary’s lead to 2-0 with a shorthanded goal 13:12 into the second period.

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions rallied as Mike Svenson got the Flyers on the board 45 seconds after Hipkin’s goal.

Zach Nicolas then scored with one minute left in the second period and that tied the game at 2-2.

Kobelka’s 4-on-3 goal early in the third restored Calgary’s lead.

Paszkiewicz made it a two-goal game 4:34 into the third.

Winkler’s Malachi Klassen faced 31 shots while Canucks netminder Julian Molinaro made 21 saves.

The Canucks will face the Melfort Mustangs and the Collingwood Blues will take on the Miramichi Timberwolves in the semifinals on Saturday.

The Timberwolves downed the Navan Grads 8-4 in the other quarterfinal.
