The Winkler Flyers meet the Calgary Canucks tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Centennial Cup in Oakville, Ontario. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions finished third in Group B with two regulation wins and two shootout losses. The Alberta Junior Hockey League champions were second in Group A with two regulation wins, one overtime win and a regulation loss. The Miramichi Timberwolves face the Navan Grads at 3 p.m. in the other quarterfinal. The Melfort Mustangs and Collingwood Blues finished first in their respective Groups and earned byes to the semifinals. 


Canada defeated Norway 4-1 at the 2024 World Men's Hockey Championship in Prague. Dylan Cozens, Jared McCann, Brandon Tanev and Andrew Mangiapane did the goal scoring for the Canadians who outshot the Norwegians 33-6. Canada and Switzerland are tied for the lead in Group A with 11 points each. Canada's next game is Saturday against Finland. 


Toronto hosts Minnesota tonight in the fifth and deciding game of their PWHL semifinal. The winner will face Boston in the championship series. Boston swept Montreal in three straight games in the other semifinal. 


The 2024 Border Baseball League season begins tonight with three games. The defending champion Winkler Whips face the Bisons in Altona; the Morden Mud Hens host the Pilot Mound Pilots and the Baldur Regals visit Clearwater. The Carman Cardinals and Cartwright Twins play their season openers next Tuesday.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up three runs in the sixth inning and three more in the eighth and lost 6-1 to the defending American Association champion Kansas City Monarchs 6-1. Goldeyes catcher Rob Emery hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth.
