Since 2002, Plum Coulee and surrounding areas have had the Plum Festival every summer, and this year the tradition is continuing with gusto. The free festival that boasts a wide variety of memorable activities for the entire family, has become a staple to the community.

This year marks the twenty-second annual Plum Fest, and planning for it is well underway.

Friday Aug. 16th to Sunday Aug. 18th, we can expect a jam-packed weekend full of the traditional fun events that go hand-in-hand with Plum Fest: such as the petting zoo, the firemen’s rodeo, the street market filled with local vendors, as well as the ever-exciting duck race.

Plum Fest Chair Erica Dyck spoke with us about what new activities we can expect at this year’s festival. “We’re having an open mic Saturday afternoon. So, any local entertainment, any new and upcoming bands, anybody that wants to just show us what they can do, they’re welcome to contact us and we’ll give them a space on the stage during the afternoon.”

Anyone interested in performing at the open mic can reach out by going to the Plum Fest website

“This year we’re having a few Blues bands come play Saturday night... [as well as] our fireworks. Our firework show is always tremendous. It goes off at 8:30pm Saturday night and it’s a very long, good performance.”

For those looking to answer the call to action, Plum Fest staff are actively looking for volunteers for the festival, “If anybody is interested in just helping out one day, two days, or for the whole festival, that would be great!”

Dyck sent out a thank you to everyone helping to make the Plum Fest happen. “We’d like to thank all our sponsors that we already have. We are always looking for more. Plum Fest is a free event for all family and friends so we can’t do it without sponsors... Plum Coulee is growing every year there is more and more people... so seeing all the new families, and all the new people that are coming and enjoying everything there and the other communities that come is always wonderful.”
