The deadline to file your income taxes is quickly approaching.

Robert Martens is an accountant at BDO Dunwoody in Altona.

He says there are two different deadlines.

The deadline for employees is April 30, but for self employed persons it's June 15th.

Martens adds if you don't file your return on time and you owe tax there are penalties enforced.

A penalty of 55 of the tax immediatly plus 1% per month and 9% interest is tacked on for unpaid taxes.

Martens adds be aware that the new fitness tax credit is only for the year 2007 so don't be alarmed when it does not appear on your return.
