A Family has been chosen to become owners of the first Habitat for Humanity home being built in Rosenort. 

Mustaf and Magda, along with their six children, currently live in a 600-square-foot, 2-bedroom apartment in Winnipeg. They have been wanting to raise their kids outside of the city for some time.

"They are looking to get a little more room and love the idea of coming out to a rural setting so, coming out to Rosenort was a fantastic fit for them," explained Shane Kroeker, Director of Strategic Initiatives for KA Group, the parent company of K-TEC Earthmovers based out of Rosenort. K-Tec has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to bring the project to town. "We're excited to have them being able to move in."

The children range in age from 2 to 19. 

Kroeker noted, that the selection committee received a few strong proposals from interested families and said the decision came down to this family's urgent need for more space and the willingness to live in a rural setting.

"We couldn't be more excited to have them in our community," he added. 

Meantime, the foundation work has started on the 1,100 sq. foot bungalow featuring five bedrooms and a double attached garage. It is located in a new subdivision in Rosenort. 

"They've got the piers in the ground and have started to pour some concrete as well," explained Kroeker. 

A community Blitz Build is scheduled for the week of June 6-10. 

"We're excited to get things going. It'll be kind of a fun barn-raising. We'll hopefully build this house in a week and get the whole structure up and take it from there and have everything finished so the family can move in as soon as possible this summer," said Kroeker.

Members of the family will also be on-site that week, lending a hand in the construction of their new home.

Meantime, $205,000 USD was raised this past week for the building project. 

K-Tec Earthmovers auctioned off a custom land scraper with the support of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers in Forth Worth, Texas, which waived its fees for the buyer and seller. Suppliers also donated over $50,000 worth of materials.

"We're always looking to help out the community and see what the needs are," explained Kroeker. "We wanted to make a tangible impact in the community, something that our employees can see and recognize that we've made an impact."

The new 2022 K-Tec 1228 pull-pan ejector scraper has a 28 cubic yard heaped capacity (18.5 cu. yd. struck capacity), a 12’ width of cut and is equipped with four 23.5R25 tires, and a GPS mast. Setting it apart from the rest of the equipment fleet, a custom one-of-a-kind special decal kit promoting Habitat For Humanity as applied to each side of the scraper. The rear tail of the scraper was also autographed by K-Tec employees, Habitat for Humanity staff, as well as the partner family.

The winning bidder ended up being from Oklahoma. Their prize also includes a 3-Year Structural Warranty and 6-Month Parts & Service Warranty, as well as a free trip to Winnipeg later this year for a tour of the K-Tec factory, and participate in a ceremony when the family receives the keys to their new home.
