Morden's campground is officially open as campers eagerly enter the grounds for the May long weekend.

Campers aren't the only ones excited to begin the seasonal activities; the on-sight campground host is ready to connect with campers and improve their experience.

Brian Thiessen says in recent years there hasn't been an on-sight host and it's his job to handle any issues that arise and give some continuity to the grounds.

As campers arrive, Thiessen says they want to remind people to keep their firewood at home.

"There is an issue with people bringing in wood, and this is an issue. We don't like firewood being transported because it delivers bugs which will kill our living trees."

Thiessen notes they do offer firewood at the campground, bagged up and ready to go.

A change that people may be receptive to is the campground will be taking over the kayak and paddleboard rentals. Thiessen says people can now go through the campground office and will make things a little simpler for both campers and residents of the community who want to give the activity a chance.

Another change will be the addition of movie night for seasonal and long-term campers on the beach starting in July.

Theissen says he's hoping for favourable weather this weekend and can't wait for campers to come out and experience the outdoors.
