The Canadian Grain Commission has reduced the allowable margin of error during re-inspection of protein on 5 classes of wheat.

Chief Inspector Randy Dennis says previously the margin was plus or minus 0.4%, and now it's 0.2%.

He adds improved instrument calibration throughout the grain handling system means more reproducibility between elevator and lab equipment, and that has allowed for the tightening of the margin of error.

Dennis notes if upon re-inspection protein is found to be outside the plus or minus point two percent range the Commission's result will be considered correct.

Protein re-inspection is available for red spring, red winter, extra strong, and hard white spring wheat, plus amber durum.
