An Ontario man has been arrested and charged in a human smuggling investigation that all began with a traffic stop in Morden last week Monday.

At the time, he had five passengers in his vehicle: 4 in their 20s and one 58-year-old, all dressed in layers for the cold weather. They were arrested under the Customs Act.

Investigation determined that all of the passengers were going to attempt to enter the United States. Of the five, two had valid status in Canada, and the others were turned over to Canada Border Services Agency for further processing.

The next day, 34-year-old Jose Pablo Hilario Pimentel was taken into custody by the Manitoba RCMP Integrated Border Enforcement Team on charges of Human Smuggling and Counselling Misrepresentation under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. He remains in custody.

The investigation continues.
