If the federal government doesn't hold a plebiscite immediately on the future of the Canadian Wheat Board, Saskatchewan will join our province in holding its own vote.

Premiers Gary Doer and Lorne Calvert made the announcement Friday.

Doer feels the wheat board issue should be decided by those who know it best, and not by ideological politicians in Ottawa.

He adds it would be in the best interests of Western Canadian M.P.'s to allow a vote to happen.

Doer hopes the weight of two province's calling for a plebiscite will encourage the Tories to hold a vote.

If that's not the case he suggests the provincial plebiscite would be held after the current C.W.B. director elections conclude in December.
