Work continues on bringing locally delivered apprenticeship training to Southern Manitoba.

The Winkler and District Chamber of Commerce, Manitoba Apprenticeship Board, and area businesses recently met to discuss the next steps.

Chamber Vice President Greg Archibald says the meeting resulted in a document outlining what stakeholders need to do next.

He adds the Chamber will be working with businesses interested in plumbing and electrical training to ensure their needs are met.

Specifically they will be determining how many people want to take the course, when it should be offered, and exactly what type of programming is desired.

Archibald says any new program will be implemented after the start of the Apprenticeship Board's new fiscal year which begins April 1st, 2010.

He adds it may be Fall 2010 before locally delivered training is available.
