The 7 candidates running for the board of the Garden Valley School Division had their say on a number of issues at last night Winkler all candidates forum.

Keeping the school mission statement just the way it is was echoed by all candidates on the stage.

Nominee Alan Froese and the 6 incumbents, Kelvin Dyck, Hilda Froese, Judy Hargreaves, Erma Rempel, Gerald Thiessen, and Darrel Wiebe said they would fight to keep the statement intact.

Hilda Froese said early childhood development and the English as an additional language programs are important.

Replacing portable classrooms with new schools, attracting staff to fit the community and greater accountability were also major sections brought forward.

Alan Frose was asked if the increasing number of immigrants moving into the division is a problem and he said they are open to everyone and will accommodate them.

All candidates also stressed the need to maintain their budgets and spend the money more efficiently.

Voters head to the polls October 25th.
