A series of amendments to the Canadian Transportation Act has been developed by the Canadian Wheat Board, Transports Canada, and other western shippers.

C.W.B. Director of Rail Logistics Patty Rosher says the package aims to address the imbalance of the current act.

Right now railways have much more power than shippers.

Rosher notes the amendments won't solve all the problems farmers face when it comes to rail transportation, but they would improve the situation.

The package was agreed to in May.

Last month Transport Minister Lawrence Cannon promised to introduce amendments to the transportation act on what he called a priority basis.
